1. Briefing

First climb (Bernia) after crossing the village of Benissa (Km 15). Long and easy ascent, with beautiful landscape and very few traffic followed by a long descend to the village of Xaló.

We will start gaining altitude again until we get to km 55 were we will start climbing Coll de Garga. No remarkable difficulties but its length could put us in trouble if we start too fast. We should save some forces for the third climb of the day.

Once we reach the top of Coll de Garga, we will start a long descend through an excellent road, giving us some time to recover.

Coll de Rates (starting at km 78) will be the final hill before heading back to Calpe. One of the most frequented climbs in the region, with an excellent tarmac, wide road and beautiful views.

2. climbs

❚ Km 16 ⇝ 31 ❚ 15km meandering rural road with some easy first kilometers but with some sections that will go up to 9%. Beautiful views of Bernia, with limited traffic. The most challenging part comes in the last stretch with gradients up to 17%.

❚ Km 55 ⇝ 61 ❚ Twisting 6 km stretch with an average of 6,5% and with sections going up to 8%. Rural road with almost no traffic and with good tarmac. On the top you will find a nice restaurant worth a stop.

❚ Km 79 ⇝ 85 ❚ One of the most popular climbs in the region. 6 km hill with an average that doesn’t go beyond 6%. This is the shorter version of the climb, the longer starts in the opposite side of the hill, in the village of Callosa d’en Sarrià.

3. TRAFFIC

Once we cross the town of Benissa at km 15 roads will be calmer. Special mention to the national road that we will be riding between Altea and Calp (km 114 to 120), expect some heavy traffic and some dangerous points (unfortunately, there is no alternative road).

4. ROAD QUALITY

The quality of the road is very good through the whole circuit. The pavement of the climb and descend of Bernia is quite worn out in some sections.
